So we're back to colors, then. I guess the inevitable 3rd version will be...Gray?

It's on the official Japanese website, and there are logos already made for it- ones that match in terms of style- and they're advertising its official announcement on TV in two days.
I'm pretty sure it's real.

It seems so soon after HGSS, but then agan, since I am considering it cross-culture, the releases seem twice as frequent to me. Allow me to confirm though...
I'm working off the Japanese releases-
1996- Red Green
1998- Yellow
1999- Gold Silver
2000- Crystal
2002- Ruby Sapphire
2004- FireRed LeafGreen
2004- Emerald
2006- Diamond Pearl
2008- Platinum
2009- HeartGold SoulSilver
2010- Black White

Well, I've no complaints on the matter, it's just somewhat odd to me...

Well, I figured they'd been working on this for some time now if they'd shown us a peak at a new pokemon from the next gen. They only do that when they're pretty far into making it and are sure of a release date in the near-ish future. And considering that HGSS were remakes, this is the first real new pokemon game pair since dp came out.

And how have you all not read all the VG cats comics?!?

Pokemon Pinball!

Doesn't seem that close to the other releases. Based on the dates that Cy gave, it's been around 4 years since the last generation of Diamond and Pearl were released. Can't really count Platinum and HGSS since the first was just a special addition of DP and the latter used the same game engine from that generation. Hard to believe how long all of this has been going around. Also didn't realize how big of a gap I had with Gen I & II (4 years between my Crystal and Emerald games). Black & White seems right on track.

$5 says that this generations "popular" version is Pokemon Black. You know what I mean, there is always one version everyone talks about over the other counterpart.

I heard somewhere that they may be called Ebony and Ivory versions, though it was by no means an official source. Anyone know about that?

I could go both ways. The first games were simply Red, Blue, Gold, and Silver, all simple colors. Then they got fancy with Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, and Pearl, gemstones. So they could easily go back to a simple color scheme like Black and White or they could keep it elegant and complex with Ebony and Ivory. Do the Japanese titles translate exactly into their English titles? That would tell you if there is anything to the rumor.

The katakana definitely read out as Black and White. Katakana being the symbols they use for foreign based/derived words. And they like to directly translate english words into japanese syllables of 'em. Like orange. spelled out in katakana, it would be pronouced Oh-ren-gee, and spelled orenji.

So yeah, this reads Poket monster(s) Black/ White (blakku/ waito). But the translators may yet decide to change the titles if they decide they would fit better as something else in english.

Heh... you think maybe we'll see the emergence of a light type?

I hope not. I wouldn't even be mad if they didn't add more Pokemon (Too bad they already are). I just wish for an awesome world where you could travel to all regions, a Battle Frontier thing, and Wifi with random matching.

*raises hand*
and I'd do it out of spite too.

But in all seriousness, I am pretty excited for this. The screenshots for it don't looks super impressive, but the locals look awesome never the less. Looks like there might be urban environments for pokemon now. *something I've always wanted, but not sure why*

Screenshots updated on the official site. Same ones you've probably seen, but clearer than that Coro Coro scan.
