I have no desire to have a camera on my DS, so I didn't even look twice at the DSi. And frankly, I don't really need 3-D on my DS; heck, I don't even know how that would be possible. Even if the pull it off, I can't see it being that good, especially if they say you won't have to wear 3-D glasses (if they knew how to do that, then why are we still wearing the glasses to the theatres?).

This is a new DS. This is like the difference between the Gameboy Color and the Gameboy Advance.
We wear 3D glasses at the theaters because it costs far too much money to change the screens at movie theaters (and even then, it probably wouldn't be as effective based on how it works), especially if it dies out. But the capability for LCD 3D has been around for years.

It's not a DSi. DSi was a DS with extra things.
I know this.
I also know that the new DS claims that it will be compatible with DS and DSi games. Therefore, it will likely have similar capabilities. And if it doesn't, I still feel like its extra features will be somewhat pointless.

The Gameboy Advance was able to play GB and GBC games, but I would hardly call its capabilities similar to those systems. It was definitely worth the upgrade when it came out, even though it pretty much did the same things, only better.I also know that the new DS claims that it will be compatible with DS and DSi games. Therefore, it will likely have similar capabilities. And if it doesn't, I still feel like its extra features will be somewhat pointless.

Plus this basically means the death of the DS in a few years. So it's not like you can hold back and expect being able to be playing new games.

I must say I haven't been impressed by the DS lately at all. The original DS Classic is the only DS I can hold. DS Lite is very uncomfortable to hold (Have you tried playing Mario Kart with one?) and the DSi feels very flimsy and just as uncomfortable as the DS Lite. 3DS? I could care less. Whatever happened to the GameBoy? I thought that line wasn't supposed to be dead.

Or, to put it more politely, "Neener neener."

I always wondered about that myself. So much for the DS being a "third pillar."Whatever happened to the GameBoy? I thought that line wasn't supposed to be dead.

It was like...the Micro or SP.
This is a true upgrade. You'll eventually be interested when the DS no longer gets new releases.

I don't understand how 3D glasses don't work for you but...I hope you can see these 3D graphics. I'm not an optician.I'm really worried about the 3D thing. See, 3D glasses don't work for me, I'm wondering if this will be the same.
Gameboy / Gameboy Color -----> Gameboy Advance / Gameboy SP -----> Nintendo DS / DSLite / DSi -----> 3DS
Since half the posts are confused on if its an upgrade to the DS or a new generation of handhelds. Serves Nintendo right for choosing 3DS as the prototype name, makes it sounds like a DS upgrade. I'll probably get it...maybe? My dad actually owned the original Gameboy and I started out on the Gameboy Color. Then I never owned the original Advance but I did have the SP. And I never had the original DS but I have the Lite. So...if this is truly a new generation, I might be lazy and not buy one until they make an upgrade within the new generation?
Not "conspiracies". Conspiracy. Singular.

Heh, I'm almost opposite. I had an old GBA and I have a DS Phat, but I, too, started on the GBC.My dad actually owned the original Gameboy and I started out on the Gameboy Color. Then I never owned the original Advance but I did have the SP. And I never had the original DS but I have the Lite. Because of this new advancement I'm learning just how many of my so-called friends are stereoblind. Sux2bu.
The gameboy turned into the DS. I thought that was universally understood.
Whatever happened to Nintendo's "Third pillar"? I do truly wish they'd make a new GameBoy. The whole DS system is just... A gimmick. I thought I liked it at first, but it wore off eventually.

That's probably why I really don't feel like it's a gimmick... Wait.
