why are people joining the force? its a trap. and i mean that in the least admiral akbar way possible. Is that the propaganda they feed the elite bullet catchers? =P- need to find work, or decide which of the armed forces I wish to be a part of and whether or not I want to be an officer.
The real decision is: Do you want to be a bad ass Navy Seal and never take anyone's crap again, or be a motherfucking Marine and be the toughest shit on your block? AND have a sword?
I see no other options.
I hope they don't take up that attitude with their superiors.
And in any case, unless they send you to fighting schools, you're really not any better or tougher as a fighter than when you went in. Believe me, I know. As it turns out, I'm a pretty good fighter. I won when we did pugels and what passed for grappling.
++Parents and little brother coming up this weekend
----- presentation work and lab practical studying to be done all day.
+ completely done with school today, however else things turn out today.

Uh, no? "Fighting schools"? This isn't Fight Club, it's the military. There is no fight school, they teach everyone the basics of combat (for 3ish months for Marines, 6 weeks for AirForce, and 8ish for other branches), in which you learn everything to stay alive should you have to fight IE shooting, repairing your guns, hand-to-hand combat, moderate stealth, explosive use, how to conduct yourself in a team, etc. Being a good fighter previously has anything to do with it. Besides if you go in there all cocky and thinking you're already some Rambo shit, they're just going to be angry because they don't give a shit what you already know. In fact, they probably would prefer you didn't know anything because they don't want you to be some street boxer or whatever you are, they want you to be a [insert branch here] dude. You should have to sponge up what they teach you. If you're pulling off your own shit, they're going to be like, "PRIVATE ASSWIPE, WHAT'RE YOU DOING? DO SOME PUSH UPS, THEN DO IT HOW WE TOLD YOU TO. WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?" Everyone knows that no attention by a superior in bootcamp is good attention. If they're impressed with you, they're going to expect more of you and expect you to be able to do everything with little or no practice, which is very bad attention. If they think you're a show off and you're confident, they're going to break you until you're just another idenity-less figher like the rest of your squad. Is that the propaganda they feed the elite bullet catchers? =PThe real decision is: Do you want to be a bad ass Navy Seal and never take anyone's crap again, or be a motherfucking Marine and be the toughest shit on your block? AND have a sword?- need to find work, or decide which of the armed forces I wish to be a part of and whether or not I want to be an officer.

Anyway, if you're going to be a grunt, you go to like another three months for infantry stuff, while everyone else goes to their MOS. They still know all their combat/fighting stuff, they just go learn other things like how to fire ze missiles instead a few more weeks of combat training with harsher practicing conditions.
Believe me, I know.

Well obviously the different branches teach their recruits different stuff. The army has fighting schools. You go to them and pass and are assigned a 'class' depending on which fighting courses you've completed. You have to be up to a certain level to be qualified to teach the techniques of lower levels.Uh, no? "Fighting schools"? This isn't Fight Club, it's the military. And it's good they teach the marines a bit more. The army, it seems, is far more concerned with the shooting aspect of fighting and figure you're doing it wrong if you have to do any sort of hand to hand. They scoff whenever we had to do pugels in training, my favortie part. We learned how to shoot some weapons, clean 'em, troubleshoot 'em a bit, and some uber basic first aid stuff. Passing shooting qualifiers and the the pt test were the most important things at basic. After that, you learn whatever MOS you're gonna learn at AIT. Technically everyone is infantry when the time comes, but the marines more so than any other branch.
