Has anybody here read any of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series (Storm Front, Fool Moon, etc.)?

When I was at Borders today, I randomly picked one up off the shelf and read the blurb on the back. I didn't end up buying it, but the concept (a modern day P.I. who is also a wizard) intrigued me, probably due to a similar story that we workshopped in my creative writing class last week. Before I decide to get any of the books, I wanted to get some opinions from people who have read them before.

Wow, this made me laugh. I was reading through some peer comments on a short story I wrote for school, and someone said one of my characters seems "Dresden Files style." I hope that's a good thing.

No good, then? I generally see negative or neutral reviews of them.

I'll probably still check the first one out at my library since I remembered that you can do that after I made this topic. =p
I need to go to the library more often. I keep forgetting it exists.

Ha, I had no idea it was also a show/film(?).
*looks it up*

I have seen graphic novels of it at Borders before, though.

Bit of a necro-post, but the Lit forum is slow, so whatever.

Finally got the first book from the library and have read about a quarter of it. My opinion so far is that the writing is technically a bit dodgy at times, but it makes me laugh out loud often enough that I can forgive it. One small aside that I find harder to overlook, though, is mention of one of the characters having trophies from aikido tournaments. Aikido tournaments do not exist, and if they do, they're not supposed to. :XD:

But yeah, I'm enjoying the book in general.
