I know I said in the 7th topic that I would be posted no new poems, but...meh. I didn't feel like rewriting any more of my other poems, and we're allowed to turn in one that's completely new instead of a fifth rewrite. This was inspired by the work meeting I complained about in the "Things you dislike" topic. <_<


STATE OF THE UNIONS

I had been warned
not to talk to people like this,
told they would lie
to convince me they were right.
A man my age,
casually dressed and charismatic,
gives me that line:
“Everybody else is doing it.”
He then holds out
a card for me to sign,
says that it “can”
improve my life from what it is.
“Can” change, not “will,”
a voice in my head echoes.
I look it over
but shake my head and hand it back.
I just say “No”
to organizers from the union.
