The unfortunate thing about that is that somehow creationists are going to re-use every word from his book as somehow supporting their arguments.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

yeah, but who cares about that? human god is fake, science is real, and humans are insignificant insects on an insignificant speck of dust in the middle of nowhere. maybe humanity can at least make an attempt now at improving our system of morality.

of course this would be on fox.... sounds like the kid was coached. especially when he describes god and jesus. couldnt be arsed to look through youtube, but DMT occurs in your brain naturally during sleep, and is released when one is near death. same thing with lsd, mushrooms, any hallucinogen-they are all known to be able to cause profound religious experiences. hell, i even saw god on shrooms, he was a blonde viking with a skull mask that sat atop a huge grey mountain on a throne of stone. the kid was probably watching some veggie tales, and his parents were probably religioning to try to get him healed.

Today I saw another of those goofy professor-student pro-Christian stories. They, of course, never really prove anything and are at best flawed beyond repair. Since I'm sure people here have seen a story like that at least once (like the teacher who drops the chalk and it breaks, or the teacher who doesn't have a brain because she can't see it, etc), have you noticed the trend that comes from those stories? It is almost always the teacher who is the skeptic and the student who is the believer. Why do you suppose this is? I have a few thoughts about why:

  • They are specifically targetted toward young people, and having the student as the believer helps make a connection.
  • Many people who might have shaky faith conisder themselves "students," and again an easier connection is made.
  • A lack of respect for authority figures. Something I find ironic, considering most religions are filled with them.

Just a thought I wanted to share somewhere.

i think until the devil comes out with a book, the bible is really just god talking mad shit about the devil. it's almost like satan is being the bigger man, and not even getting into an argument.

in heaven, you meet every one of your dead relatives. in hell, you meet hookers, and rock stars, and athletes, and tons of other really cool, interesting people. why would i want to spend an eternity with my grandpa, who touches himself when he watches The Waltons, when i could watch a fight between pol-pot, and hitler, with dick cheney as the referee?
