Edit by Vicious Parker: This discussion gets really good, or really annoying, a few pages in. Don't let this deceptively misleading original post... well, mislead you. Come, join the stupidity.

Also atheists aren't "bad", just realistic. Religious people aren't "bad", only full of hope and faith.
Both can be horrible though, it depends on how you go about your beliefs or lack thereof.

Neither of those statements are true. Also atheists aren't "bad", just realistic. Religious people aren't "bad", only full of hope and faith.
The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

As decreed by me, at this very moment, this topic is to stay alive for every so we can discuss what and why we believe what we believe.

Ok fine. I believe that religion is a way for the feeble human intellect ( ALL human intellects ) to cope with death. I'm not saying that religion is wrong to believe because it instillls some of the most basic moral values which no one should be without.
On the other hand you will not get me to believe that some cosmic jewish zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-women was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree... It just dosent sound plausible to me
If you look back through history we have had BILLIONS of people die for what they religiously believed in.. I say that beliefs cause problems whereas non-belief causes normality.
Am I saying that the big bang theory is correct? NO. All creationist ideas are THEORIES. They will never be proven simply because they cant be proven.
I choose to believe in the fact that I am here, for what seems to be no purpose, and that I will die eventually.
monkeydog I think you should've let this one go...

Atheists are so full of themselves.
I'm atheist! No one even knows though, until they try to push their beliefs on me. Then I layeth the smacketh down. XD
I respect religious people. They deserve to believe whatever they want, but as such, I expect that respect to be returned. They should respect me and my lack of religious beliefs. Yet, a lot of the people I know that are super religious that find out I'm atheist, they make it like their crusade in life to make me religious too. And I won't stand for that. I don't go out of my way to explain why I hate religion and why I think it's total crap, so I should think they'd have decency to leave me be and not go off about all the great things about God and religion and all that stuff.

Scientific LAW, ladies and gents. It has been proven. It is not wrong.
This being the case where would've "god" have gotten the matter to create heaven and earth? Much less the whole universe?

And scientific laws can be proven false. That's why we no longer have laws anymore, and call them theories.
I'd say more but need sleep.

I do believe it seemed kind of unlikely for the laws on gravity to be disputed, but they were.

Like I would write a story about the Giant Snail, called Snail. He created the earth with his pee, and a little bit of pepper. The humans are his nuclear buggers, mixed with salty water. He had a son, called 'Edgar' and the son was drowned in the mud, which he was thrown in, because of our sins. Also, there are little elphants, who brings the souls of a dying person to up above, called "TEH FUNPARKOLOLZ". But when you deny the existance of Snail you'll go down to "Little Elegant burning piles of crap", or Lebpoc. Yes, when you commit even but one small sin, you'll be swimming in crap for the rest of eternity. (Hey, just as just as the real God!)
I find that even more plausible than someone who can walk over water, or can even change water into wine. Which is impossible. How can you turn H2O into C2H5OH? Where does the C come from, out of nowhere? Impossibe, even when you throw your coal into water it would not change into alchohol.
Hell, when I would write something like that before the bible was written, spice it up a bit with cool quotes, it would be the number one religion of Europe instead of Christianity.
The funny thing is, everybody would ectaully go to hell, since all christians don't believe in Allah, so all christians would go to the Muslim hell, and vice versa. I expect that the Christians here would say "But Allah doesn't exist". Try to convice a Muslim of that fact.
So, my point is, religion is just created by mankind. Why would there be diffrent religions, each saying their way is the best. Odd eh?

The point of religion that no one seems to gt is that it is all fabricated by man. Every single religious document was written by man therefore being a creation of man. Did christ actually exist? Sure. Did he dies through roman crusification? It is possible. Does that mean he's his own father? No. Save mankinds souls? No. That Muhammed and other prophets didnt exist? No.
Like I said it cant be proven. No matter what arguement we may say abou tit it will never be proven.
