What's the deal here?

The game seems to draw on the American civil war quite a bit. From the dude's interest in the civil war, to jokes about the confederate uniform to the museum location. But I can't figure it out. What's the parallel they're trying to draw? Why is it important to set the Walking Dead in Georgia (I may have that wrong?). I feel a bit retarded because it seems like they're trying to make a point here, but because I don't know much of anything about the American civil war I just feel a bit dumb.

It's set in Georgia because that's where Robert Kirkman lives or grew up or whatever. All the Confederate nonsense seems to me to just be part of the background. Have you been to Georgia?

Otherwise maybe Kirkman is saying something about civil issues, but zombies are weird. Sometimes they're social critique, sometimes they're just zombies.
