What are some games that you didn't play when they were new, then tried later on and found that you enjoyed - or couldn't stand?
Since I'm working my way through my backlog of games, this describes just about everything I've been playing lately.
I suppose the most notable for me is the Kirby franchise. Until recently, the only times I had ever played controlled Kirby was in Smash Bros. Now I'm playing through the Dream Collection on Wii and have finished the original on Game Boy and am most of the way through the second on NES. So far I'm getting the impression that Kirby games are rather easy (there are so many levels that look like they should be tricky...if you couldn't just fly indefinitely), but they're still enjoyable enough that I plan to finish up the Collection. I even tracked down an inexpensive copy of Kirby's Epic Yarn, which is a game I never expected to buy.
On the other end of the spectrum, Streets lent me his copy of Onimusha a couple years ago (and for some reason I still have it). I was interested after he talked it up and said he'd lend me each game in the series as I finished one, but...I didn't get very far into the first. I don't know that I had ever played a game with tank controls and static camera angles before this, and Onimusha certainly didn't sell me on the idea. I constantly ran into obstacles that should have been easy to avoid, and I eventually gave up after getting killed too many times by enemies I couldn't turn the camera to see.
