Final Fantasy XV trailer.

I feel like this will either be really really really neat or bomb and potentially just kill off the main series forever.

I can appreciate the aesthetic of four dudebros with magic and giant swords driving around the countryside in a sports car.

Looks terrible. Likely if it weren't for Final Fantasy being in the name, nobody would play it. Battles look like the same "real-time" mash X bullcrap that's been killing the series for year, bunch of dudes sitting in a car--guess airships are finally played out--and the clothes. Seriously guys, the 90s are over, and guess what, those clothes weren't even cool back then. Ugh. What happened to you Final Fantasy? You used to be so good.

fantasies of 15yro suburban kids. that looks really fun to play if the combat is in real time like that.

I disagree with you Lazlo, although I do not particularly like the action battle system in my Final Fantasy, but whatever. If they can make it as good as Tales or Star Ocean I'll be happy.

I particularly like how open the world feels in that trailer, and there's just a lot of interesting things going on.

Although I don't have much hope for Square Enix to ever follow through with what I find interesting.

I don't like the look of this. Maybe it's the stupid clothes, hair and sports car, but this looks awful. Which makes me really sad. I just really wish they'd stop trying to be cool and just give us a straight up fantasy again. Even if it ends up a little bit generic. I'd rather that than 'omg, look at us trying to emulate j-pop fashion!'

I don't think anyone at Square that worked on older Final Fantasies works there anymore. Besides Nomura, and obviously this is his style.

Also, I don't know. Bravely Default holds up the torch of old Final Fantasy pretty wel, if not better, I think.

I don't even care if it looks and plays out like one of the old final fantasies. Like, I like the old ones, definitely, but just repeating the same formula over and over wouldn't be fun, either. I just wish they'd do something less mundane feeling than this. I just hope that it's just a bad trailer and that, since it's still in development, things are subject to change.

Also, Nomura is apparently no longer directing Final Fantasy XV, now it's Hajime Tabata. Though, I dunno if the style seen in the trailer is that of Nomura's before he left the project. I guess it depends on whether he left the project a while ago, but news of this was just released, or if he really did leave it now.

Nomura was directing it for eight years. Even if he left now it'll mostly be a Nomura Final Fantasy.

Plus Nomura set down the foundation for this game and the style/characters (As far as everything I've read about this). All of Tabata's games feel/look like Nomura's junk anyways. So there's not a huge difference between the two. Kind of like how Final Fantasy XII ended up.

True enough, except for the FFXII part. that just confuses me since that was the one recent FF that wasn't stylistically drenched with Nomura. Unless you just forgot an I, in which case that makes more sense.

No. I mean that Final Fantasy XII had a director switch and still ended up with a lot of Yasumi Matsuno (the original director, and the guy who made Tactics Ogre/FFT) ideas and style.

I didn't explain that very well, sorry.

I was excited for XIII when I first heard about it. This time I will content myself with tentative curiosity.

I agree. I was soooooo excited for XIII but I barely got two hours into it when it first came out. Even the beginning of the game I wasn't too disappointed, but at some point it was like "this is it, this is the game" and it made me very sad. Also didn't help I didn't like any character at that point (besides maybe Lightning, who is okay).

I split this into a new topic because reasons.

Also more footage of the game:

I do kind of agree with it looking stupid. I'm not a fan of the character styles or the battle system (although I can't really judge that without playing it). But the game looks great (as do most Final Fantasy games as they come out), the battle system could be interesting, and the idea that it is open world is so so appealing to me. (please please make them remember towns exist, they've been bad at that even back to Final Fantasy X)

I can forgive a lot of things with an JRPG if it lets me explore and the systems don't completely bore me. Also I've never really hated a setting in a Final Fantasy game, and this one really interests me.

All in all, it'll probably be really disappointing. I'm interested, but I wouldn't be buying a PS4 just for this game (sadly, the reason for me buying a PS4 is probably going to be directly tied to a game I can play on my PS3), and I'm sure it and Kingdom Hearts 3 will be worth trying for me. But both can easily fall on their faces and remind me why I just put no faith in anything Square Enix does anymore.

This game is somewhat of a mixed bag, I really didn't like the car, I did however se potential in the freefloating system it seems to provide. We'll keep looking

I've always had a soft spot for Final Fantasy. I will admit I haven't played a more recent game in the series. I have watched my Dad play through X, X-2, & XIII.

As pretty as this game looks I hope it doesn't sacrifice story. I know that sounds weird, but that's what I love about FF. The stories draw you in. Beauty is nice, but Square Enix can make any game look like a CGI movie and that worries me just a little.

I'll like keep watch on this. My first impression is hopeful.

Also, if I can play as that frog I will so get this game. No problems.
