The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

Pretty sure it was more expensive when it came out.

And I don't know. It's not really that expensive. It's still a powerful tool that you could potentially make money off of (look at To The Moon).

Just saying.

Still yeah, it is a bit surprising that it's on steam. I guess all the weird licensing issues have been resolved?

Enterbrain has been kinda weird about releasing stuff in english. they stopped supporting rmxp when vx came out, which wasn't originally released in english. (right? i had a hack/trans that another member sent me a link to. can't remember/don't care)

It uses a newer version of Ruby.

It supports more chipsets, apparently. I think VX was incredibly limited in this regard, but I don't know for sure.

It has more database stuff.

It has a built in character generator and also has a built in caterpillar system, I think.

I think it supports 64 bit systems too.

how backwards compatible are the scripts? i havent seen as much for the vx gen, but i dont know if that's predicated upon any xp compatibility or not. all the ruby wizards i know still develop for xp. i could use ccoa's ums for facesets and what, but i really despise her, so i won't. i hear she's dying of lupus or crohn's or something.

It would matter on how the syntax is updated between iterations of Ruby and if VX uses different variables/classes for things. I don't know.

Yeah, it seems Valve wants Steam to compete with the Windows App Store or something, I say more power to them. I saw this whenever it came up on the Steam Update News and wtf'd at it for a minute, then thought that stranger things have happened. It's actually pretty cool that RPGmaker is finally in a place to get mainstream consumer attention, because traditionally it seems like it's been one of those things that you only hear about from those weird cliques on very slow forums that nobody ever goes to, and you can only learn about it on a few dedicated forums, and someone has to link you to a download because the big torrent sites don't track it and blah blah blah.

$70 really isn't that much to pay for something like this, though. It may seem a lot because we're all used to just downloading this stuff, and full featured ROM hackers like LunarMagic and HyruleMagic that are free because they're illegal. It may not be "professional grade" software, but it is enthusiast grade, and come on, when you think about it, how many hobbies don't require a nearly $70, if not more, initial investment anyway?

By the by, does anyone know if you still need a copy of RPGmaker to play VXAce games?

I think this was my longest post on Monkeypro in like over a year. Considering I've only once opened any RPGmaker software that's pretty funny, huh?

Nope. You don't need a copy of any of the makers to play the games. Although if whoever developed the game used RTP and didn't include it you'd need that, although the RTPs are free.

This is what you guys have been using all this time? I would have dived into this sooner had I known no programming was required.

What does RTP stand for? Ready-to-Play?

There can be programming involved, but it isn't necessary. It's not easy though. Like any hobby, it requires a massive investment in time.

There's a trial version.

Also, fun fact, there is a boxed version as well. Which I'd be far more interested in if I hadn't already bought it.
