Uhm, the LHC isn't being turned on for the first time. Nor was it when it was turned off last month. They've been doing a ton of test runs since they've been able to. I wish people would stop freaking out every time they run a test.

Actually they stole that idea from quantum physics, where there is no real distinction between past and future. Some people actually think the human brain can time travel, sending signals back in time a few nanoseconds so your muscles react as soon as the thought reaches your brain, rather then having the thought, then sending it down your nerves to the muscle you want to use.
