If you buy 2007 now (Or in the past couple months) you can upgrade to 2010 for free though, so if you're planning on waiting, don't bother.
Upgrade from 2007 is pretty cheap also, I think. I'll stick with 2007 for a while though, but if I get back into school in the next little while I may upgrade just for shits and gigs.

I have access to msdn because i follow an IT education, and by some mistake/accident they put it up early, i just took the opportunity and downloaded it before it was taken of again. (dunno if the accident was regional...but i guess it was because i cant find any news about the premature release)
