So, I was just thinking this sounded fun, after seeing this coming up.

I was thinking I would use haxxy ways to offer prizes to the victor. The tournament would be held round-robin style. Players tied for a position will have a mini-tourney to claim the position's title. All of this will take place on one day. If you are not present, you will be disqualified. Participants will also be required to join MP's IRC channel for real-time chatting and status updates. Proposed prizes:

1st place: Any pokemon the participant wants. (Can be event Pokemon [possibly shiny]!)
2nd place: Any non-shiny pokemon the participant wants. (Can be event Pokemon!)
3rd place: Any non-shiny pokemon the participant wants.

Any ideas, or revisions? Also, A DATE. Please list a date (or dates) in the future when you will be available. I was thinking somewhere in the range of two weeks to a month for proper training time. Feel free to list ideas on that too.

I'd be all for it if I could figure out some way to actually get on the wifi. For some reason my DS can't connect to our wifi with the password set, so I might try removing the password temporarily just so I can compete in this. I really wanted to compete in the tournament last year since one of the regional areas was in my hometown. Might be a bit more difficult this time around being over 2 hours away from the tournament location. Plus, I've never had the mindset for doubles battles.

But yeah, I'm in.

Heh, interesting that in that tournament, you can have up to two legendaries, those being the ones you can catch in HG/SS without needing a special event, in a battle, but have 4 of 'em on your team registration sheet... so it apparently gives you room for alternates for your team.

Question: How/would be able to give out prizes like that?!?

Weekends is when I can play, but before the 26 or so of May. After that I'm in california just before being shipped out to Georgia. X.x

That's why there's training time :P

http://www.pkmdb.com/ has most of 'em. I guess there aren't any shinies, so maybe first place can have any pokemon, second any non-event pokemon, and third can have any non-shiny non-event pokemon. Sounds good to me~

Dates, since I didn't mention it before.

My week of finals starts on May 3, so that entire week is no good for me. I'm also going to be away for a week as a counselor from June 6-12 and doubt I'd be able to get internet access of free time. Any other dates will probably work with me for the rest of the summer break, with evenings being preferable. Still waiting on some jobs and submitting more applications, so I don't know what my work schedule will look like for certain but evenings is a safe bet for free time.

I'll be done with my last two finals on May 17. I may join if we can wait until after that (though I may have to use my old wi-fi team if it's very soon after).

Hmm, so it looks like between when Stars' finals are over and when Mael ships out would be the best time, so probably May 22 or May 23, anyone got a preference? That gives about a month of training time. Team registration must be done at least a week before the competition.

Also, I was thinking of this, but didn't post it at first. I was thinking teams would consist of 3 (!!) pokemon, with two slots for alternates like the VGC. This makes it pretty fair, I think. Any ideas on this?

Another also: To register teams, just PM me the five pokemon you'll be using along with their movesets. I'll still compete in the tournament as well, but I will not be allowed to place, so it's like I'm not playing, I just wanna battle T.T

I'll reveal the registered teams on the day of the competition so you can plan your three pokemon team for each battle.

I like the three-member team idea. I may actually be able to train a new team if I don't have to prepare six of them. =p

Excellent idea. Count me in. I think those days should work for me as well. Hyper, you should draft all the rules we've come up with and edit them into a succinct place in the first post here.

If you all like, I could attempt to persuade Uxie, Ashikoto, Nateh and eh, thatotherguy into joining.

Fortunately, my team is already raised. =)

But that's when my finals are. :(

Then suggest a better date. Though this will most likely take place at night, are your finals at night as well?

^same, so wait only 3 pokemon?

Three pokemon per battle, but you register a total of five. You can use any three of the five.

I will, after we iron out everything :P That's why I'm asking for feedback. Or I'll probably make a new topic or something.

Yes, please do!

I agree, evenings are the best and that teams of 5 with just three battling would be great, allowing for the relatively short amount of time to prepare.

I imagine that there are no legendaries/trios allowed.... which would sadly take out my uber mewtwo, but w/e. Also... should we also limit it to first and second gen pokemon (and pokemon that evolve from those pokemon, like magmortar and electivire)? I mean... it would defeat the point of having a HGSS tourney if we didn't. So... like my gallade, lucario, and torkoal couldn't participate, among others.

If we do only HGSS there goes half my raised team. >.> It was done within HGSS, just- within the national dex.

Hmm, I don't think it should be limited to first/second gen, but just pokemon that can be caught in HG/SS. Except legendaries. This is something everyone should provide feedback on.

I agree that legendaries should not be allowed. They are in a class of their own and someone with a Lugia could just wall an entire team. Not to say that other Pokemon can't do that, but it just doesn't seem as competitive. It's like when they started letting professional athletes into the Olympics instead of just amateurs.

I wouldn't really care either way if we made it HGSS Pokemon exclusive or not, I could work my team either way. If we made it just so it's Pokemon that are obtainable within the games (whether or not that's how you got it) that still includes the vast majority of Pokemon. You can get all the starters but Sinnohs in the end game and with the national dex a lot of other Pokemon become available.

Oh wait I hate competitive Pokemon anyway.

It's only competitive if you make it so. You can play the game normally and enter any team. It's not like someone says you must use this pokemon with this standard moveset or something. As long as you know how to play the game, you should do fine. That's also why I chose the three pokemon per battle, it sort of evens it up for hardcore players and people that don't care.
