i just finished plastic beach, and it wasnt what i expected. all the guest rappers made the band seem like a guest on their own cd. it just didnt have the same feel as demon days

I don't know.

I didn't much enjoy the guest rappers, De La Soul and Snoop Dogg's stuff was nice, but not great.

But I really feel like the majority of the good stuff is like On Melancholy Hill and Rhinestone Eyes, that's just Gorillaz. And the stuff with Lou Reed, Bobby Womack, and Little Dragon is superb.

I think if you take the good vs. the alright it still makes for a really good album, of course it doesn't feel like Demon Days though, but Demon Days didn't feel like the first album either.

but demon days had feel good inc, happy landfill, dare, green world, and fire coming out of a monkey's head. it wasnt exactly the first album, but they could stand together. the first album just has better remixes. snoop dogg sounds like he has no idea what's going on, he's just all "boss dog d o double g planet of the apes" everything ive ever heard him guest on he just does this confused sounding rap about nothing. this one's too much rap, not enough gorillaz. if they did more stuff like meloncholy hill, and to binge itd be a great cd. like more actual singing, and upbeat dancy stuff. it seems like they tried to do a half and half mix on this cd. some kind of nature has a classic feel like how a good portion of the first album was.

Happy Landfill was a b-side. Which there has only been one of so far for Plastic Beach, and that was just an instrumental song.

And Plastic Beach has ONE extra rap song vs. Demon Days four.

Plastic Beach also has one more song on it. I don't think this album was every meant to have any upbeat dancyness to it. Apparently this album had a lot of just instrumental stuff to it hat Albarn had to cut, and the instrumentals are the saving grace for things like White Flag, I believe.

I don't know, I really enjoy the album, it's a different beast from the other two albums though. And you know, the popular songs from the first two albums, Clint Eastwood, Rock The House, Dirty Harry, Feel Good Inc...all were predominantly guest people to begin with. There really isn't a Gorillaz band, it's just Damon Albarn when he decides to sing, the whole idea of Gorillaz is just one big collaboration.

it just seems to me that the upbeat dancy stuff is what gorillaz is all about, aside from the collaborations and damon albarn. dirty harry was meh. the rap just came out of nowhere, and it wasnt russel's rapping ghost

See, I don't think that. I really don't see any dancey stuff on either of the first two albums (proper, at least, no G-Sides or D-Sides), save for D.A.R.E. and 19-2000.

The big part of both those albums are just downbeat trip hop pop songs.

I unno.

Topic for the new Gorillaz album.

So me and Kasper can stop spamming up the What Are You Listening To? thread.

Is it strange that my favorite song on the album is Glitter Freeze?

Yes, because On Melancholy Hill and Empire Ants are better.

(but nah, Glitter Freeze is pretty alright)

Don't know why but I can't get into this new song or any of Plastic Beach really. Rhinestone Eyes was a bitchin' track though.

Nah I couldn't get into Melancholy Hill for some reason. It just seemed so whimsical and inoffensive. I think I prefer Gorillaz when they've got the sinister edge of songs like Feel Good and Dirty Harry.
