This is our last assignment before we start doing rewrites, so all the people that have been ignoring these topics can...well you can keep ignoring them, I suppose. =p
This week's poem is a free assignment, so I chose to do a narrative piece about a character from an RP I'm in (which is currently trying to come out of its hiatus). It takes place in a land where magic and science are at odds with one another, as they so often seem to do in fantasy settings.
ALANNA
As we flee, I cannot help but reflect
on what has led me here,
running through this dense forest to defect
from what had been my home.
Technology is banned by those in power,
but Daddy and I loved to tinker.
When they found us - though he was no coward -
fear was evident in his eyes.
He told me to run, and I did as told;
I could do nothing else.
Running home to Mom, my reception was cold;
more men were waiting for me.
My father, Punished for what he hid,
taken from me by his betrayal.
My mother, ashamed of what we did,
taken from me by her loyalty.
Nearly captured, by two "men" I was saved
(I guess you'd call them that).
Whisked away were my Halcyon days,
we three now fugitives.
For various reasons, we all are pursued:
what we have done or what we are.
But whatever the cause, we still must elude
those arbiters of grim "justice."
And so to escape their machinations,
we travel through these woods
to a place called the Civilization
where all are accepted.
