This week is poetry that is "dream-like, nightmarish, or surreal." This one is a combination of odd dreams I've had in the past, hence the title.
MEDLEY
Feather pillow cradling head,
I turn uncomfortably in my bed.
But trying not to make a peep,
I pretend that I am still asleep.
Still, I feel everyone stare
And decide that it is only fair
For me to finish with my ruse.
After all, I mustn't lose
The game that's got us all so keen:
A race across the deep ravine.
We file out the classroom door,
Break up into teams of four,
Get to our marks, get set, go!
Braving the gusts of harshest blow,
Groups cross on bridges made of log,
Hindered by the slightest fog.
I manage to cross 'bout half the gap
Before I slip on leaking sap.
Feeling wind sting my falling face,
I know that I have lost the race.
I land in a car at the end of the fall;
Turns out that drop wasn't really so tall.
I ride down the track, not a care in the world,
But before long once more my vision is swirled.
The train I was on is now far below,
And I swing by my foot, going to and fro.
On top of a pole - boy, someone's got gall -
I'm tied to a cord like a big tetherball.
Oscillation soon makes me horridly dizzy.
Oh what relief when I finally break free!
Dropped onto a rooftop, a city at night,
I scan the shadows by pale moonlight,
Frantically seeking the one (as I shiver)
Who trussed me so sneakily way up thither.
Before long I spot him and start to give chase,
Trying to follow his ninja-like pace.
Building to building, from one to the next,
The longer we jump, the more I feel vexed,
'Til One ill-aimed leap leaves me musing with dread,
"I'd be better much off if I'd just stayed in bed."
