Interesting ... was this based on the old 1600 point SAT though?

*shrug*

It could be based off of the new one but just omit that new part.

Hooray for Radiohead, Muse, the Killers, and Death Cab for making me smart! Booray for The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Foo Fighters, and Dashboard for making me dumb! Isn't it weird how Beethoven trumps everything but the general classical category lies towards the lower end. Beethoven reigns supreme

I did not notice that.

Luckily I listen to Sufjan Stevens (or did, not so much now) so...I'm pretty smart. The stupidest thing I listen to is apparently The Doors. (but I assume The Doors and Pink Floyd and such are so low because the people who listen to them were probably high while taking the SATs)

And I am a bit disappointed that Sufjan Stevens and The Shins are up there, but no Decemberists. I'd really like to hear what the hyper literate prog rockers would rank.

(I'd also like to see of Montreal, but I'm sure they're just making me stupid and sexy)

my dumb-smart points are nickelback david bowie

itd be interesting to see that broken down by race. obviously you can pick out white people music, but id like to see if the people listening to beethoven and geting double 800's are the same asian kids from my school that were super stressed out all the time and worried about asian failing.

and obviously this would change if the age range wasnt made up of high school kids. i likes me some 5th symphony, but you cant exactly sing along in the car to it...

and besides, everyone knows the sat is rigged. its just a front for D.E.B.S. recruiting.

Having associated with a fair few Radiohead fans in the past I can assure you that this study is flawed.

Same.

And yes, looks to be using the old SAT tests. Which I got a 1460 on.

But then it makes sense, the vast majority of music will be in the middle as the vast majority of the populace scored only around 1100. I wonder how much my score and preferences would shift the bands... (probably not much, if he did it right and got a good enough sample size.)

But I have noticed that those who really enjoyed rap were generally not the brightest, most studious of the bunch. Too much being gangsta and trying to have an attitude to do all that stuff, I guess.

Edit: Lol at gospel in the top left.

It lies. :)

It says you're really dumb if you listen to oldies, and only slightly less dumb if you listen to country, but I scored just under Beethoven on the SATs. And I don't listen to Beethoven.

Country... well the country guys and gals I know weren't the most booksmart, nice as they were. And yeah, I listen to oldies too. Like billy joel (hint, he's towards the right side).

Lol, technically my score is off that spectrum completely. I am booksmart, working on streetsmarts.

I'd be basically impossible for anything to be past the 1300 mark.

Considering this is just the averages of random people. You'd have to actually somehow get an average of over 700, which is waaaaaaay too unlikely. That's why everything is so low, because most people are stupid, and most people are going to bring the average down, assuming it's more popular. Which is why something like Sufjan Stevens is really high, because it's mainly the appeal to a small audience...and a small audience that is generally away from the masses.

I'd more quickly reach the conclusion that the SATs questions show a bias towards white middle-class students (seeings as the questions are written by middle-class white people). This would explain why the people who score highly listen to middle-class white music like Radiohead.

You don't think it's bordering on racist to accuse the average rap fan of being too "gangsta" and not being bright?

I had a really small class in high school, and the only rap fan I knew was a dorky, skinny white guy. xP

This seems to imply that listening to Jars of Clay makes you smarter than Johnny Cash or The Doors? Or am I reading this wrong?

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.
