Why didn't you like the anime? I thought it was fucking awesome. The plot, character creation, conversations all perfected and thrown in one big blender, and a nice Death Note smoothie came out. I didn't read the manga though.

That's kinda like how I was with Negima, Sovs. I saw the anime and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Then I read the manga and was like "I actually liked the anime? This is so much better!" =p

Well, I actually prefere Anime over Manga. Because you can put more depth in Anime than in Manga, by using music and sounds. And I really loved the music used in Death Note. So yeah..

you can put more depth in Anime than in Manga, by using music and sounds.

Movies and tv shows are good for story-telling because you can see and hear what's happening. Books are good for stories because you can read what characters are thinking and get detailed descriptions of things you might miss in movies. Comics are in between, using pictures for scenes and text for character insights.

I've seen a lot of stories that are deeper in manga form than their respective anime, so it's a debatable point.

Having seen many (read: almost all) of the Death Note anime episodes, and owning the first of the manga books, I can say that I very muchs o enjoy the anime moreso than the manga.
Just.... Episode 7, with the music, voices, subtle effects like the beginning of falling snow and stuff.... gah...

If the manga does that part better, forgive me, as I haven't read it. But, The first 12 episodes of the anime were the ones I liked best anyways. After that.... neh....

I'd much rather buy novels, anyways. Manga is so easily downloaded, if I so feel like it. Novels, though, need to be on paper for me to truly enjoy.

Yeah generally I like the Manga more then I do the anime's because I imagine my own voices and music that I think apply to characters and then the Anime Dubs are usually just horrible, but in the case of death note the Manga really doesn't do the morbid methodical evil sides of the series any justice - I watched the first 10 episodes after reading them and the manga just doesn't really give the length between happenings to really get you to think something bad is going on, like when Light was trying to figure out that FBI chick's name. In the anime the mood was so perfect and dark, but in the Manga it just went straight from thoughts of HOW to do it, and then him doing it with little pause. The Anime set the mood much better with the constant pauses, repeated face flashes and then that wonderfully dark music it really gets the "holy crap i wonder how hes going to do it" vibes going on. So climactic.

But still, i prefer to own the manga too, whether I get the Anime or not =)
My manga collection is getting so big!

I can honestly say that Death Note is one of the Better Anime series out there - I cant wait until I get to the end =) I'm only a couple books into the series now.

In some cases, I prefer manga. SOME cases.

Most of the time though, I prefer the anime. (see: Trigun. The anime is leaps and bounds better than the manga) Subbed, usually, but if the english voices are good, I prefer it that way. Sometimes.

I just have to say that I finished this earlier this month, and I found it much better in manga form. Additionally, this series has managed to get me to read more manga than watch anime.

I really don't like the voice overs for the english version. I can't remember if the japanese dub fared any better.
