I always enjoy finding out what people's favorite films are. Sometimes they base them on something like an objective checklist (taking into account things like story, writing, directing, acting, etc.) and sometimes they base them on personal preference (like if the answer is Transformers 3).

So, what's on your list of top films? My top 3 in no particular order are:

Casablanca because the story is absolutely perfect. There's a great blend of romance, suspense, action and drama. Also, Humphrey Bogart. 'Nuff said.

Blade Runner, the Final Cut. Yeah, the pace is slow and it's easy to get bored, but it's one that really makes you think and has excellent character development.

Wall-E, just because it's my favorite Pixar film.

Wall-E is my favorite Pixar movie. It was on the short list for favorite movies in general but I don't know anymore.

Eyes Wide Shut - Just in general I'm a Kubrick fan boy. I probably could put The Shining or Lolita or 2001 or Dr. Strangelove or anything here (save maybe pre-Lolita or Barry Lyndon - it's just to boring in how perfect it is). I feel like it's a hard movie to like, but it's a movie that's really stayed with me and something I can rewatch multiple times and pick out something new...which is easy to say about most of Kubrick's work, but yeah. I love the cinematography and the directing is top notch, it really makes you feel like you're in a dream.

Oldboy - Not whatever shit Spike Lee made, but the Park Chan-wook original. The action scenes are awesome and the ride the movie takes you on is just awesome. I think the only fault the movie has is that it looses a lot of its punch after the first watch because most of the fun of the movie is the build up to the climax and the mystery surrounding it. Still, it's an awesome movie, and definitely deserves to be watched.

Children of Men - Somehow when I first typed out the movie title I ended up with "No Children for Old Men", which is weird (I will note I love the Coen's as well. Fargo is at least in my top ten.). This movie is astounding, and I'd type more but I'm sure VP will post about it...or you can just find one of his posts where he talks about it, because he expresses why I enjoy this movie more than I could.

Pulp Fiction - Tarantino is another one of those directors that I just enjoy most of the time. Pulp Fiction is my favorite of his movies...maybe. I have a hard time picking between that and Kill Bill. I'd probably pick Kill Bill right now because I just watched it, buuuut Pulp Fiction has been one of my favorite movies since I was young, and I stand by it.

Princess Mononoke - Another thing like Pulp Fiction. Probably could have picked another Ghibli movie (Laputa, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies are all awesome, and I have very fond memories of Kiki's Delivery Service)...but I just watched this movie the other day. It's just so good. Especially compared to the rest of Miyazaki's output in terms of what the story is and the maturity. I kind of wish he had put out a few more movies like this and less like Ponyo and Totoro (which are awesome too, and I love, of course)...especially Ponyo, which was a bit of a disappointment after hitting it out of the park with Mononoke and Spirited Away.

Hmm, most of those movies I just mentioned are a bit of the ol' ultra-violence. I like calmer movies too.

Off the top of my head, I'd say that my top two are:

Sneakers, for the excellent blend of suspense and comedic moments.

The Princess Bride, for basically being perfect.

I also enjoy most Ghibli and Pixar films and any movies that successfully blend action and comedy. I'm not as interested in deep, serious films since I usually just watch movies when I want to "turn my brain off" as the critics say. If I want to think, I'll read a book.
