How does Monkeypro feel about him?

spoilered to avoid influence. post in spoilers, then read others.

Interesting, I'm looking into getting a decent internet connection and building myself a server. Will have to look into that when I can.

Also Julian Assange is a sexual deviant. Our all knowing leaders have told us so.

Lols, absolutely superb.

Also he's just been granted bail, which is a fantastic indication that European legal institutions aren't entirely corrupt. Kudos to them.

We should be thankful that he was arrested in Europe, then. If he were arrested in the U.S. he would probably be dead by now.

Huh, well... I don't know how I feel about it... I think that a lot of the stuff that's leaked definitely should have always been transparent. But I don't have the depth of knowledge to really judge whether the things he posted endangered the lives of US civilians or military in the sense that people are claiming they have.

But... this? What? http://www.nytimes.c...5wiki.html?_r=1
No offense to China, but this sounds like something China would do.

Has anyone seen the David Frost interview with Julian Assange that was shown on al Jazeera?

It's pretty good stuff, Assange seems genuinely terrified about what's happening to him and Frost asks some really good questions. One of which being whether it's right to leak information that may endanger lives.

I'll watch that interview soon. I've become incredible fascinated by this situation. I only wish I knew more people in real life who were as interested as I am.

And on what you said, Bean, I was watching another interview with Assange where he makes the point that if wikileaks had resulted in the actual endangerment or loss of someone's life, the American politicians and "journalists" would have been all over that story. Even if there were a shred of a possible connection, it would be all over the news. But it's not, and that's likely for a very good reason.

I'd rather he is cleared of his charges. I'm not impatient enough to wish a man dead.

For months Assange was living an hours drive of me. I could get a bus there for like £4. Every morning he had to report to the local police station so I could have just waited there and then I would have been face to face with one of the most interesting people of our time. But because I could never figure out exactly what I would say to him I kept putting it off and now it's too late. I really regret it. I think Julian Assange is going to be remembered as one of the most iconic figures of our time however all this turns out for him. If only I had enough imagination to come up with an appropriate line to troll him with I could of had a great story for my grandkids.

Now shit is entering a new phase. He's in the Ecuadorian embassy desperately pleading for asylum (which in my opinion he is unlikely to get) and a notice has been issued for him to present himself to police to be extradited at a "time of [the police's] choosing."

Here are some unfounded views I have on him:

He probably did rape the wikileaks volunteers, he just seems a bit seedy like that. Though I fully hope that this untrue.
There's probably not enough evidence to convict him of rape so the whole thing benefits nobody except the US who will finally be able to get the hands on him from Sweden.
The leaking of the documents did a whole lot more good than it did evil - but probably not as much good as my idealistic self would have hoped. Though I did get to cite the leaked documents in my dissertation, which helped me personally.
I hate global politics more than ever.

Shiiiit, this cocksucker just got granted asylum by Ecuador. This is huge, really impressed with the Ecuadorian handling of the situation. Of course the British police have threatened to suspend their sovereignty of the embassy to carry out the extradition which would be absolutely insane. This story just gets more and more crazy and will probably be talked about until we're all dead. And it should be because christ! The implimacations!

I have no idea what US coverage of this is like. I can imagine it's different to the British, which is different to the Swedish which is different to the Australian, which is different to the Russian and god knows what the Ecuadorians are saying. This guy is totally punk.
