I LOVE THE RAKE'S SONG
http://decemberists.com/
It was released today, for free.
It's so fucking awesome. It takes the Decemberists's psuedo metal sound from When The War Came and Odalisque and adds some of the scariest scream/moan things I've ever heard and talks about killing babies.
I love it.
Album comes out March 24th, me want now.

Highlights of the Album
Hazards of Love 3 (Revenge!)
Children's choir + Sped up versions of the songs before it = Win
The Wanting Comes in Waves / Repaid + The Wanting Comes in Waves (Reprise)
The Wanting Comes In Waves / Repaid I already knew was great, The Reprise is even better.
The Hazards of Love 2 (Wager All)
It's a really nice song.
Annan Water
My favourite, so fucking beautiful.
The Hazards of Love 4 (The Drowned)
Almost my favourite, also fucking beautiful.

This album, is an album, it is not a collection of songs, you aren't meant to listen to any of things songs by themselves. The whole essence of this album and the songs in it is only really realized if you just take this album like one would take The Tain, as a whole piece.
And I absolutely adore this album for what it is.

Tonight.
Also the album is legally out on iTunes and a few indie record stores.

A) This is their first album in 3 years
B) It's very different than their earlier stuff
C) I heard a bunch of acoustic versions of the songs early last year
D) I love The Decemberists
E) This topic is just because there's a bunch of Decemberists fans on the board who usually come to me when they want news and it's far easier just to make posts about it and direct them to this topic.
But now I have nothing to look forward to. It's kind of disappointing.

The Decemberists' are going to appear on The Colbert Report on April 27th.
Last time The Decemberists/Colbert mingled...it was some of the best Colbertness ever. Hopefully this does not fail to reproduce the magic of before.
This is going to be the first time The Decemberists are all there(Only the guitarist, Chris Funk, showed up for the guitar off), and actually perform a song, on his show too.

East India Lanes, a song the crew debuted about a year ago, will be released as a B-Side to The Rake's Song on a single they're releasing just for Record Store Day.
There is also a Hazards of Love song that didn't make it on the record:

The one labeled Hazards of Love 3.
Which makes about 4ish unreleased Decemberists songs. (This Hazards, Burying Davy, Zoot, and The Cap Street Girls)
