Chopped. Lots of it.

I honestly think it's probably the best reality TV I've ever seen. It's really no nonsense, yet it holds a lot of drama. It's simple and awesome and I unabashedly love it.

Yesterday I watched the end of Inglorious Basterds and Princess Mononoke.

Today I watched Back to the Future Part 1/2 since I guess Bee had never seen those movies and was curious. I love BOTF 2 but it's so not as good of a movie as part 1. Part 1 is pretty awesome to rewatch.

Also just got done watching Kill Bill Vol. 1. Probably going to start 2 right now.

Me and Bee re-watched season 4 of Dexter. It's such a good season, that even the ridiculous/stupid stuff doesn't much matter. John Lithgow was just really great as Trinity, and there's a few moments that are really shocking.

Shame almost every other season save the first two is absolutely terrible. At least I assume, I've never seen Season 5 nor did I finish Season 8. Might do both out of boredom/momentum from Season 4.

So I watched Space Dandy. It was alright. I kind of was expecting more out of it...but maybe it'll gain momentum.

I watched Jurassic Bark just now on my lunch break, and jezzus. I can not sit through that stupid episode of Futurama without crying at the last minute. It's just so ridiculously heart wrenching. I can't even think about it right now without getting sad. I think I never realized the ultimate irony of what Fry does at the end, denying Seymour to come back, even though that's all Seymour wants, is to see Fry. I always thought it was really sad that Seymour waited and then the last few frames is his death, but now everything just makes it sadder.

That episode always amazes me.

Don't feel sad. In Bender's Big Score Fry goes back to the 2000's and we see him playing with Seymour again. Happy times!

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

Probably were expecting more cause of the people involved in making it. All I know is its a pretty weird beginning episode and cant wait to see more of the show.

SG-1 again. I'm thinking of watching Firefly. I've never seen a bit of it but I understand it was cancelled despite strong numbers. Can someone explain to me why?

We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far and no further!

It didn't have strong numbers. It had decent numbers but was mishandled by Fox (kept changing nights, didn't even air the pilot first, aired episodes out of order) and ended up getting canned. It got a really big following in cancellation, which lead to Serenity.

Firefly is the best.

Ohhhhhhh ok. The little blurb I read on this was kind of misleading then. It made it sound like it did astoundingly and that they up and cancelled it for no reason. Wikis aren't always a good source.

So I finally got around to watching season 5 of Dexter, using the steam from the much better season 4 gave me.

My conclusion: not that bad.

Honestly I might have a skewed view on it, but compared to what comes after it? It's not much worse than season 3 was. It's just tolerable, and honestly I like a lot about it. I actually think The Group was a decent big bad for the season, especially since the sins of them weren't just another serial murder spree. Also I really liked Julia Stiles in the season, and one of the WORST things about the season is the fact that she just leaves. They might have fucked it up but it would have been way more interesting had she stayed, and she's a far better match for Dexter than Hannah ever was.

Most everything else though is stupid and probably the worst it had been up to that point, but so not as bad as it gets. The crew at Miami Metro at least seems slightly competent this season, at times (other times they're just stupid), which is better than what they become later on.

tl;dr: Not bad, not great. Disappointing compared to season 4, masterpiece compared to season 6.

Now I might watch season 8, but I just don't really want to. I know it's going to be terrible (which is a shame since Vogel started out being kinda interesting)

I started watching Attack on Titan because it showed up on my recommendations on Netflix (somehow? I never watch anime) and I hear okay stuff about it. It takes a lot for me to get into an anime. The last one I really watched was Persona 4 and I hated it and it was terrible, only reason I kept on watching was because of the game. I guess Space Dandy too, but I don't have much of an opinion on it (but meh).

So anyways, I started it up just to see what it was about and was immediately put down by the subtitles. Not because I refuse watching stuff in subtitles, but mainly because I wanted to play video games while watching. So I decided I was going to only watch the one episode and then stop...and ended up watching like 10~11 episodes.

I like it, I really do. It's not the best anime I've ever seen, but it's incredibly unique and has a setting that I really enjoy. Just something about the end of the world and being stuck in small places (hard to explain what I really mean) has always piqued my interested. And this is exactly it. I love that it doesn't have any of that annoying anime junk in it ("NANI?!" sweat drop, nose bleed fall down). It also has a kind of neat alternating of styles I can only really think of seeing before in Kill Bill (same companies animated both, I believe). I mean, not exactly the same as Kill Bill, but similar.

There are problems though. Characters are a bit meh, especially the main. Although I feel like if you were living in the end of the world witnessing everyone you love being killed by weird giants you probably wouldn't develop much character. But they throw all of these characters at you that you're supposed to care about and it works sometimes...but eh. Although I'm kind of glad they don't dwell too much on them, because they're not that exciting of people, and they really are kind of trope-y. Also it kind of spends too much time on things, the pace could be sped up I feel. But it's not that bad, nothing so far has really felt like filler.

Also there is a twist early on that would have been way more interesting had it stayed a twist. I mean, obviously, it wasn't going to...but it would have been a really cool idea.

Spoiler

I'm excited to see how it all turns out, but I realize it doesn't actually end at the end of the season, so I am preparing for disappointment if it decides to end at a weird spot (which anime based off of ongoing mangas seem to do often).

I think it's definitely worth checking out even if you're not an anime fan. As long as the idea behind the show interested you, like it did me.

EDIT: Also, the monologues of pure self reflection and exposition are dragging. Do the Japanese not understand being subtle?
